Why reprogram your automatic gearbox?
There are three main reasons why customers in the Paris region come to us to have their automatic gearbox remapped:
1. To follow on from a Stage 1, 2 or 3 engine remap
The most common scenario at our two centres in the Île-de-France region is that a remapped engine produces torque that the original gearbox was not calibrated to handle. The transmission’s ECU continues to operate using its standard thresholds, which can initially result in slight wheel slip, followed by accelerated wear on the clutches, or even a warning message that cuts power during full acceleration. Recalibrating the gearbox allows these thresholds to be raised so that it can handle the torque actually delivered by the engine.
2. To make the gearbox more responsive for sporty driving
Many sports models driven in the Île-de-France region leave the factory with an automatic gearbox that has been deliberately toned down: the manufacturer prioritises comfort over pure responsiveness. This restraint becomes apparent as soon as you really put the car through its paces, whether it’s a brisk overtaking manoeuvre on the A6 near Évry or a Sunday drive along the roads of the Vexin or through the Forest of Fontainebleau. Reprogramming the gearbox removes this software-imposed restriction: gear changes in a matter of milliseconds, immediate kickdown, and downshifting via the paddle shifters with no delay.
3. To correct unsatisfactory factory-standard behaviour
Some standard gearboxes cause problems without any engine modifications being involved; this is the well-known case with the Stellantis Group’s EAT8s, Ford’s PowerShift gearboxes or dry 7-speed DSGs. Their weakness becomes apparent precisely in the most common driving scenario in the Paris region: the constant sequence of stops and starts, which is encountered just as much on the ring road during rush hour as in the queues on the A86 or during repeated manoeuvres in city centre car parks. Reprogramming helps to smooth out these hesitations without affecting the gearbox’s mechanical reliability.
What reprogramming does NOT do: it does not fix a mechanically faulty gearbox. If your automatic gearbox has proven slippage issues, leaks or abnormal noises, start with a diagnostic check and a MotulEvo oil change before considering reprogramming.

This is by far the most popular configuration in the Paris region, and by far the most effective: simultaneously remapping the engine and the automatic gearbox. Here’s why this combination is so effective:
- The remapped engine delivers higher torque than the original gearbox can utilise to its full potential
- A remapped gearbox changes gears more quickly and handles the extra torque better
- The two mapping profiles are synchronised to ensure seamless performance

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Automatic gearbox remapping is not limited to tuned vehicles. On a standard vehicle, it enables faster gear changes, better-timed shifts within the rev range, and more responsive gear changes. This is a separate modification in its own right, distinct from engine tuning.
The vast majority of dual-clutch gearboxes (DSG, S tronic, PDK, DKG, EDC) and torque converter gearboxes (EAT, ZF 8HP, Tiptronic) are compatible. CVTs are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the centre with your vehicle’s details (make, model, version) to confirm compatibility.
When carried out correctly, automatic gearbox remapping does not compromise the transmission. By calibrating the safety mechanisms and clutch pressure in line with the engine’s actual torque, it actually reduces the risk of slippage and overheating, which damageunmodified gearboxes.
Yes, this is in fact the recommended procedure. Both remappings are carried out during the same appointment, with validation on a dynamometer. The consistency between the engine mapping and the gearbox mapping is checked before the vehicle is returned.
Between 1 hour and 2 hours, depending on the transmission and the settings selected. The procedure is carried out in a single visit, by appointment, at one of our two centres in the Île-de-France region.
The choice depends largely on your usual route. Paris EST (Servon, 77) is best suited to motorists from the east and south-east of the Île-de-France region, via the A5 or the A4. Paris West (Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 78) is more accessible from the Yvelines, Val-d’Oise and western Paris, via the A14 or A15. Both centres offer the same services.
