PPF film in Tours: protect your car’s bodywork

The Shiftech centre in Tours, located in Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, offers PPF (Paint Protection Film) fitting to provide long-lasting protection for your vehicle’s bodywork. Transparent, self-healing and removable, our Hexis films form an invisible physical barrier against scratches, stone chips, insects, tree sap and the effects of UV rays.
Whether you wish to protect only the most exposed areas (bonnet, front bumper, side skirts) or opt for full coverage, we tailor the service to your vehicle and how you use it. The film is fitted at our centre by our technicians, following a thorough cleaning and decontamination process to ensure flawless adhesion and an invisible finish.
Whether you’re protecting a new vehicle, preserving the value of a premium model or preparing it for resale, PPF film is currently the most effective solution on the market.

What is PPF film and why should you have it fitted in Tours?

PPF film is a transparent polyurethane (TPU) film, applied directly to your vehicle’s paintwork.

The role of PPF

To absorb the effects of everyday wear and tear before they reach the original bodywork. From stone chips on the motorway, parking dents, insects, chemical residues and UV rays, PPF withstands it all without the underlying paintwork being affected.

What sets PPF film apart from a ceramic coating is its thickness and physical properties. Whilst ceramic coatings reinforce the surface with a thin layer, PPF film acts as a genuine second skin, capable of absorbing impacts that ceramic coatings cannot block. The two solutions are, in fact, complementary.

Another practical benefit for owners of well-maintained vehicles

PPF film is reversible. It can be removed at any time without damaging the original paintwork, which is not the case with touch-ups or partial repainting.

For drivers in Tours and the greater Tours area, the issue of protection takes on particular significance on national roads and the ring roads on the outskirts. Stone chips on routes such as the A10, RN10 or the Tours ring road – particularly on the stretch from Joué-lès-Tours to Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire – are one of the most common causes of premature damage to bonnets, front ends and headlights.

Hexis films installed by Shiftech Tours

At Shiftech, we exclusively fit films from the Hexis range, which are renowned for their optical clarity, durability and self-healing properties. These are professional-grade films, used across the Shiftech network in all our centres in France and internationally.

Glossy finish

Hexis gloss film enhances the depth of the original paintwork. It captures and reflects light to create a highlighting effect that brings out the best in both dark and light colours. The ideal solution for vehicles where you want to preserve (or even enhance) the original shine.

Matt finish

The matt film transforms the appearance of a gloss paintwork into a satin or matt finish, without the need for repainting. The result is a understated yet distinctive look, particularly sought-after on SUVs and premium saloons. Hexis matt film offers the same level of protection as the gloss film whilst altering the visual appearance.

Carbon finish

Designed for specific areas such as mirror housings, trim inserts and the bonnet, the carbon finish provides a textured carbon-effect finish without the cost of genuine carbon fibre parts. An effective way to personalise a vehicle whilst protecting it.

All Hexis films fitted by Shiftech have a lifespan of up to 10 years, depending on the vehicle’s use and maintenance.

Which areas should be prioritised for protection?

PPF film can be tailored to your vehicle and your budget. We can apply it to a specific area or cover the entire bodywork. Here are the areas most commonly protected and Shiftech’s standard prices:

  • Headlamp lenses: from €199. Polycarbonate headlamps are particularly susceptible to impact damage and yellowing caused by UV light.

  • Interior: from €99. Protects piano black trim, door sills and areas subject to heavy wear and tear.

  • Underbody: from €299. An area highly exposed to stone chips and abrasion at low speeds.

  • Black or carbon-fibre roof: from €399. Protection for painted or vinyl roofs against scratches from branches, bird droppings and UV rays.

  • Windscreen: from €449. Specialised windscreen film to withstand impacts and minimise the risk of cracking.

  • Front end (bonnet + bumpers + wings): from €1,099. The most popular package for vehicles that regularly travel on motorways or dual carriageways.

  • Full vehicle: from €3,799. Total protection, maximum aesthetic consistency, optimised resale value.

The final quote depends on your vehicle’s model, the complexity of its bodywork and the areas selected.

We’ll advise you at our centre before any work is carried out.

What is the installation process like at Shiftech Tours?

The quality of the result depends as much on the preparation as on the application itself. Here is how we proceed at the Tours centre:

1. Thorough cleaning of the vehicle. Before any application, the bodywork is thoroughly washed to remove all dirt, wax residue or contaminants that could affect the film’s adhesion.

2. Clay bar treatment. A pass with a clay bar ensures a perfectly clean and degreased surface. This is a step that many amateur or low-cost installers overlook, yet it directly affects the film’s lifespan.

3. Film application. The technician applies the Hexis film, gradually working out the installation gel and air bubbles. For complex areas, pre-cut templates (digital templates cut to the exact shape of the vehicle) are used to ensure no blade comes into contact with the paintwork.

4. Drying and final inspection. Once the film has been applied, a drying period is observed before the quality control check. If necessary, finishing touches are applied to ensure a flawless result.

After application, we recommend avoiding washing the vehicle for 7 to 10 days to allow the adhesive to set completely.

PPF film and resale value

A vehicle with well-preserved bodywork sells for a better price and more quickly. This is a factor that buyers are becoming increasingly aware of, particularly in the market for premium vehicles and sought-after models. A PPF film applied at the time of purchase, or shortly afterwards, helps to keep the paintwork in factory-fresh condition for several years.

When the car is sold, the film can be removed to reveal the intact paintwork, or left in place as a selling point for the buyer. In both cases, the investment in a PPF is justified beyond mere day-to-day protection.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about PPF Film in Tours

No. When correctly applied to a properly prepared bodywork surface, Hexis PPF film is transparent and virtually undetectable to the naked eye. It follows the curves of the bodywork without creating a visible seam in most cases.

Up to 10 years depending on use and maintenance. Regular hand washing with non-abrasive cleaning products, and avoiding direct high-pressure jets on the edges of the film, are sufficient to maximise its lifespan.

Yes, that’s one of its major advantages over other solutions. When removed correctly (using heat, gradually), it leaves no marks on the original paintwork.

If the paintwork has imperfections (micro-scratches, swirl marks), it is recommended that you carry out paint correction before installation. The film will lock the surface in its current condition at the time of application: you cannot correct any imperfections afterwards without removing the film.

Yes, the two are complementary. Ceramic coating can be applied over the PPF film to enhance the surface’s water-repellency and make maintenance even easier.
