Why choose Shiftech Belgium to remap your vehicle?
In most cases, manufacturers configure engines as standard to meet environmental standards and the requirements of different markets. These settings are not always optimal and can be improved using our expertise.
Engine remapping allows usto precisely adjust the engine control unit’s settings, delivering significant improvements in performance and efficiency. Whether for a diesel, petrol or hybrid engine, we use techniques tailored to each vehicle to achieve the best possible results.
Expertise in engine optimisation
Shiftech hasover 15 years’ experience in engine remapping, guaranteeing exceptional expertise and optimal results for your vehicle. Each map is developed in-house by our engine engineers, without the use of generic files.
Latest-generation remapping tools
At our Shiftech Belgium centre, we use state-of-the-art tools and software to ensure precise and safe remapping, specifically tailored to each vehicle model.
Bespoke mapping
Every remapping is tailor-made to suit your needs and the specifications of your vehicle. We do not supply any standard maps: every file is developed and tested under conditions specific to your engine.

1. Vehicle diagnostics:
Reprogramming can only be carried out on a vehicle in good working order. Before any work is carried out, an electronic diagnosis is performed to ensure there are no faults.
2. Initial power bench test:
The vehicle is tested on a dynamometer to check that the engine is in good working order and is delivering its original power output.
3. Engine remapping:
The engine control unit’s original settings are optimally adjusted by our engine engineers.
4. Post-reprogramming tests:
After remapping, the vehicle is retested on the dynamometer to ensure the performance gain and that the mapping is functioning correctly. A road test is also carried out.
→ A well-maintained automatic gearbox copes better with the increased performance: we recommend having its condition checked with an automatic gearbox oil change at Perwez either before or after the optimisation.
On average
What are the benefits of engine remapping?
On average, engine remapping increases power and torque by around 30 per cent. For example, on a 2017 Volkswagen Golf VII Mk2 1.5 TSI 130, Stage 1 improves performance by adjusting the engine control unit settings. This results in increased power and improved responsiveness, whilst remaining within the manufacturer’s safety limits. Fuel consumption can also be optimised with appropriate driving techniques.
On vehicles with automatic gearboxes, we also adapt the transmission by reprogramming the gearbox in Belgium, so that the gearbox can handle the additional torque without any issues.

Frequently Asked Questions!
Everything you need to know about Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 engine remapping, and E85 conversion!
What is Stage 1 engine remapping?
What is Stage 2 engine remapping?
Stage 2 engine remapping goes further than the modifications made in Stage 1. It combines bespoke mapping with the installation of selected performance parts to unlock potential that Stage 1 cannot achieve on its own.
Stage 2 tuning typically involves fitting a less restrictive sports exhaust system, designed to speed up exhaust gas flow, as well as adding a high-performance air intake or a high-volume intercooler. These modifications reduce intake temperature and optimise combustion, thereby improving both the engine’s performance and reliability. Once these parts are fitted, a bespoke map is developed to get the most out of them.
Depending on the level of torque achieved, Stage 2 may also require the reinforcement of certain drivetrain components, such as the clutch. Each modification is tailored on a case-by-case basis: the parts selected are chosen according to the vehicle’s specifications, to ensure a consistent and reliable performance increase over the long term.
What is Stage 3 engine remapping?
Stage 3 engine remapping represents the most advanced level of performance enhancement for a vehicle. This stage involves the installation of performance parts such as the turbocharger, intercooler, fuel injectors and clutch in order to achieve maximum power. Due to these significant modifications, Stage 3 tuning requires the expertise of specialists such as Shiftech to be carried out correctly. With parts specifically selected for this tuning programme, Stage 3 allows a vehicle to be completely transformed.
What is an E85 conversion?
An E85 flex-fuel conversion involves reprogramming the ECU to adapt the vehicle’s mapping to super-ethanol biofuel. This modification adjusts the engine mapping so that it can operate efficiently on bioethanol (E85), petrol or a mixture of the two fuels in any proportion. Numerous engine parameters are optimised, such as the amount of fuel injected, the air-fuel ratio and cold start conditions, to ensure full compatibility with E85.
