IPE exhaust system

We had the privilege of welcoming one of the most powerful supercars of the moment, the Ferrari 488 GTB PISTA, to our premises. Our mission was to install a complete exhaust system from IPE to improve its sound.

At Ferrari, each generation of mid-engined sports coupé is entitled to a radical version at the end of its career. A version designed for the track but approved for the road! This was already the case with the sharpest Ferrari 360 Modena, named Challenge Stradale in 2003. Four years later, a Ferrari 430 Scuderia was launched, followed by the Ferrari 458 Speciale in 2013. now it's the turn of the 488 GTB to get its own radical model, the 488 Pista, priced at €291,710 (excluding options).

What makes the 488 Pista so special?

The Ferrari 488 Pista has undergone radical changes compared to the 488 GTB. Numerous carbon elements, such as the rear spoiler and the hollow bonnet, lighten the bodywork while optimising its aerodynamics. The 720bhp, twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 has also been slimmed down by 18kg, with titanium connecting rods, a lighter flywheel and an exhaust manifold made from Inconel, a new alloy used in Formula 1 racing. All in all, the Pista boasts a kerb weight of 1,280kg, 90kg less than the 488 GTB, and 50bhp more thanks to new supercharger sensors that allow its twin turbos to blow harder and faster without compromising reliability.

A Ferrari that's easy to handle!

The Ferrari 488 Pista is surprisingly easy to handle, and its controlled suspension is very comfortable, even though it has been stiffened by 10%. The quality of the damping is confirmed on winding roads. Even on rough surfaces, the Ferrari 488 Pista always retains excellent support. Using the automatic Sport setting, the dual-clutch gearbox anticipates your wishes according to the angle of the steering wheel and the pressure on the brakes or the accelerator. Despite the twin turbos, the torque doesn't arrive abruptly and doesn't reach its peak of 770 Nm until the 7th and final gear.

why is the 488 PISTA such a sensational machine?

In Race mode, the throttle is even more responsive, and the transmission doesn't hesitate to be brutal. The 488 Pista reacts at low revs and takes off with even more gusto between 3,000 and 8,000 rpm. The ultra-sticky front end and excellent rear-wheel drive encourage you to brake later and later, then accelerate even sooner.

Is the sound its only real fault?

With the introduction of turbos on the 488 generation, we lost the sonic soul of the Ferrari V8. Remember the good memories of the sound of the Ferrari 458 speciale, you know that sound that goes right through you and puts a smile on your face. To make up for this lack of sound, the owner of this magnificent 488 pista asked us to replace his exhaust system with a complete line from IPE. To share the sound with you, we've created a video that summarises the vehicle's preparation.

Like all Ferraris, the 488 Pista is as exciting to drive as it is to look at. With its new exhaust system, its owner will now be able to enjoy its sweet vocals!
