BMW after 2020: no more unlocking your reprogramming is done on the same day

Prior to this update, writing a modified map to BMW DME8 ECUs (Bosch MG1CS024, MG1CS049, MG1CS201) could trigger fault codes relating to the vehicle’s FSC activation codes. To avoid this, a bench unlock was required – a reliable but cumbersome procedure.

The Improved OBD Unlock Patch permanently resolves this issue. Once applied, writing via the OBD port is completely reliable, with no fault codes triggered and no further intervention required on the ECU.

What this means for you in practice:

• No need to send the ECU away → your BMW stays at home until your appointment
• No waiting → the work is carried out on the same day at your Shiftech centre
• No extra cost for theunlock → the reprogramming fee is the same as for the service alone
• Same level of quality → the mapping is developed and validated on a dynamometer, as with all vehicles in the Shiftech network

This update applies to three control units from the Bosch MG1 DME8 family:

• Bosch MG1CS024 (Tricore TC298)
• Bosch MG1CS049 (Tricore TC298)
• Bosch MG1CS201 (Tricore TC298)

These ECUs are fitted to virtually all petrol-powered BMWs and Minis produced since 2020, ranging from 4-cylinder engines (B46, B48) to 6-cylinder in-line engines (B58), across a wide range of models from compact cars to M Power models.

The BMW and Mini models affected

If your BMW or Mini was manufactured after 2020 and is fitted with a petrol engine, there is a very high likelihood that your vehicle is covered. The main model ranges affected are:

BMW petrol: 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, Z4, and their M Performance (M340i, M440i, M550i...) and M (M2, M3, M4) versions, depending on the engine.

Mini: Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works, petrol engines from 2020 onwards.
